Aurora Eats: Tacos Selene

We've moved out of Aurora, but one of my favorite taco places is still a hole-in-the-wall spot in that much-maligned city.

I refer here to Tacos Selene.

'Nuf said.

The experience is simple and understated. You walk up to the counter and order tacos, tortas, burritos, or quesadillas with your choice of meat: asada (beef), barbacoa (shredded beef), adobada (pork), al pastor (pork with pineapple), pollo (chicken), tripa (tripe), or lengua (tongue). You take a trip to the salsa bar and select some tasty-looking toppings that don't have any kind of labels: something with onions, something that looks like creamy habanero sauce, whatever you want. You wait at a table with your Mexican Coke (in a glass bottle, of course), nibbling on spicy bits from the salsa-bar, and then the food arrives:

Glorious. I have no more photos because I ate it too quickly.
Our favorite meat is the barbacoa beef: well-seasoned and tender. Get it on tacos, in a burrito, or as a quesadilla. I haven't tried the tortas but I'm sure they're amazing as well.

No-frills Mexican street food done right. What more can you ask for? I think all I would ask is for a second location near my new house. Please, Selene?
